Hi! I'm Jack

My name is Jack, and I am an artist based in Torquay, South Devon, U.K. I have always had a passion for creativity growing up, from drawing and painting to learning the clarinet when I was younger. Although I loved being creative, soon football, surfing and general life took over and I did these things less and less.

Educator Turned Artist - Explore My Story Today!

Fast forward to adult life, I had just finished a long year studying for my PGCE in Secondary P.E and was struggling quite badly with mental health. Teacher training was extremely tough, I spent months away from home, spending long days teaching then extra hours doing paperwork when I got home - I was getting very little sleep and suffering from sickness due to anxiety.  I started supply teaching when I graduated, but again was struggling with my anxiety, and was sick each morning waiting for a call from the agency. I was surfing less, and eventually stopped doing anything I loved.

my journey continues...

I then found an old guitar and started learning to play again, and this ignited the creativity spark that had been missing all of those years. Having a hobby retrained my focus and helped massively with my anxiety, to the point where I felt well enough to get a full time job teaching.

My guitar playing continued, and I started to write my own songs and really look forward to playing. It was also at this time my girlfriend started her own business - amberhoney - which was a homeware brand, selling candles and handmade pieces she made.

She asked me to draw a few pictures so she could sell them as prints to add to her range, so I started with a bee and a whale.

and so it began...

Her business grew quickly, and soon she was selling quite a lot of candles and prints, so we opened a shop in Dartmouth, Devon and haven't looked back. The range of prints expanded rapidly into 22 designs which I call the wildlife collection today. Selling these designs, I rediscovered my love for drawing, and with each one I am discovering new techniques and refining my style to something which is seeming to be quite popular!

Between playing music and drawing, I have loved rediscovering my creative side, and really feel like it helped me through a tough patch mentally. I have managed to go back to supply teaching to give me more time to focus on my pushing my artwork and wouldn't be able to do it without all of your support, so I'm so grateful to everyone that has purchased from me to get to this point.
